"Timaru is unlikely to meet national clean air standards by deadlines in 2016 and 2020, raising the prospect of consent restrictions for industrial activities. Reaching these goals will require one third of homes to get rid of their solid fuel burners within eight years. Speaking to district councillors this week, Environment Canterbury programme manager Don Chittock said only 67 per cent of homes currently using solid fuel heating will be able to do so if the 2020 clean air standard is to be reached. All woodburners will have to be low-emission complying burners"
