Nelson City ends solar scheme

"The initiative originally aimed to get 1700 Nelson homes to install solar water heating over four years, and annual plans made provision for 700 homes over the first two years. But only 159 signed up in the first year, and the uptake has dwindled away since, despite the council lowering the loan interest rate.

By Monday when the council made the sudden announcement it planned to discontinue the scheme only 219 homeowners had installed solar hot water"
